Background
This dream occurred in the morning on October 13, 2025, and was written up in the wee hours of the morning the next day.Dream
In this dream, there was a large, four-story house with a very bizarre floor plan. One stair case led from the first floor to the fourth, skipping the second and third, while the other allowed one to access to the second and third stories. On the third floor, there was a balcony with a fire exit [1], and a staircase that led to the roof. On the roof, there was a shack-like room where a throne was. The room was dimly lit, and several spiders occupied it. The ghost of a woman who used to live there supposedly haunted the room. In the dream, I could not remember meeting any of the previous tenants of the house, besides a man; the woman was his wife, and they had three kids, but I never met them.
I remember nothing else of the dream.
Analysis
The four-story house is clearly a distortion of Derik's house, which is three stories. Derik's house also has a complicated topology; the first floor is accessible by a door in the back, and the second floor through the front, with an indoor staircase leading from the second to a third floor, but no indoor staircase between the first and the second. But why was Derik's house the basis for this dream? Well, I play Pokémon with Derik, and it is clear to me that the previous tenant I remembered from the dream bore a striking resemblance to a man named Jimmy, whose son (PJ)[2] I used to play Pokémon with. I had never met Jimmy's wife, and if he had any other kids, I had never met them. Jimmy lived in a trailer on my grandma's property,[3] but in this dream his home seems to have been inverted into a mansion, just as Derik used to be homeless and now lives in a three story house. Derik's house has black widows and brown recluses, hence the spiders.
The fire exit reminds me of the one from the Lorax Manner in Eugene, where [redacted] and [redacted] live. [They] are twins, whom I used to mix up frequently; I seemed to have "twinned" (confused) Derik and PJ in my dream in the same way. The confusing layout of the house also represents the confusion I had at the Lorax Manner.
That I remember nothing else of this dream is a direct link to the day I went to visit the Manner; I had gotten drunk, and forgotten much of the ride home. I also visited the roof during that dream, and there were two teenagers with us at the time, who I must have placed in the role of Jimmy's forgotten children. However, these minors were dating; so, if they were in fact the dream children of Jimmy, they would have engaged in an incestuous relationship. This theme was not present in the dream; subconsciously, I take it, I must be predicting an eventual severance of their relationship, as teens do not tend to become lifelong partners.
Endnotes
[1] I now recall that "fire exits" may stem from the general concept of "fires," which were present in a previous dream I had analyzed on my blog
[2] PJ's first name is "Phoenix," as in the mythological motif which frequently occurs in my writing and narrative. I also livd in the city of Phoenix, Arizona briefly when I was five, which may have coaxed me in the direction of this dream, not to mention the fact that "PJs" are a popular term for pajamas, which I wore to bed.
[3] This property, and the town of Oakland where it resides, is a recurring dream location, and oftentimes appears greatly distorted, with extra rooms or with extra buildings.
